Demonstrating self-awareness

To become what you want, you must know where you stand at the current moment.

For me this is something I am constantly doing. To become the well-rounded sports professional with expertise on reaching clients personal goals in a gym or sports studio setting I need to gain knowledge on an wide-spread area of topics. My personal view on a healthy lifestyle is formed by the trinity of physical activity, the right nutrition and mental well-being. Human Movement Sciences gave me a foundation of theoretical knowledge on some of these topics, however this being very impractical I know where to head.

At the first year of the Hanzehogeschool I was more focused on how to implement this knowledge towards others, the part I felt that was lacking. Therefore I set out a trajectory I needed to follow. Getting more credible knowledge about physical activity by following the course Fitness-A in the second year of Sport Sciences.

During the same year I also followed the course introduction into sports psychology to get some practical ways to use psychology theories to reach specific goals of clients.

During my internship at The Kettlebell Fitnessclub brought those two into practice when I started training clients. After each training session I asked for points of improvement to implement in the next training session. Because improvement starts when you address your own lacking areas first before giving external parts the blame.

Feedback from Rink Dubblinga on my performance:

‘Ontwikkeld zich in het geven van trainingen, wil betrokken zijn bij bedrijfsactiviteiten en vraagt om feedback. Verbeterd zichzelf hierdoor. Hij voert de taken uit zoals wij verwachten dat deze gedaan worden.’

After this internship the minor nutrition in Portugal followed. In which all aspects considering nutrition and diet were tackled using a practical form to implement in real case clients. This was for me the last lacking part in my knowledge to start helping others with reaching their health goals.
